For those of you that aren’t aware of SquaredUp, they provide a HTML5 based web console for SCOM with a host of additions, including dashboards, Visio integrations, and connections to other data sources.

I’ve been lucky enough to use SquaredUp sincce it’s very first version, and it’s come a long way since then, so I thought it was time to highlight the benefits SqauredUp can provide when implemented.  So this is the first of a number of blog posts to highlight these benefits!

Easy Installation and Configuration

The first thing to be aware of with SquaredUp is the ease and speed at which it can be installed and working.  Installation involves running a single installer that completes in minutes, and there is no configuration required at all…  other than providing a management server name during install, and designing pages once installed, there is nothing else to do.

This is a great approach to a dashboard solution, as nothing is being installed or imported into SCOM, so you can be sure nothing about SquaredUp will affect your SCOM performance or data.

I recorded the installation, below, to show just how easy it is to get up and running.  It isn’t the most exciting video you’l watch, but you’ll see that I installed SquaredUp in under two minutes, and one minute of that was the installer installing the IIS pre-requisites!  Once the installation completed, the web console was up and running.
